September 9, 2025 ​After much thought and reflection, we have made the difficult decision not to sponsor a local program as part of the Miss Virginia Opportunity and Miss America Opportunity in 2026. We take immense pride in mentoring and supporting the incredible young women who allow us to be part of their lives. Because of this, we must be able to fully stand behind the leadership and direction of the organizations we work with. At this time, the choices being made at the state and national levels raise concerns that do not reflect the values we uphold as a program or as individuals. Because of this, we cannot continue our involvement under the present structure. We hope that, with meaningful change, there will be a day when we can return. Until then, we want to thank every person who has supported us and, most importantly, the young women we have the honor of knowing. About 15-20 former Miss Virginia winners boycotted the 90th celebration because of the manner in which experienced board members were let go. Also there were accusations of racism toward the only POC on the board, who was also let go after enduring an afternoon of the N-word being used freely at the directors home. There is so much wrong with leadership in VA. They will deny everything but it is all true. VA is trying to force all of their locals to move to a for-profit model and give up their 501(c) status. I believe that Arlington and Roanoke Valley were the last holdouts. Roanoke Valley isn't going to change and the VA Board would lose a lot of local support if they tried to mess with RV. The bottom line is that NO ONE in VA likes Mark or Nancy and they hope that they step down. There are plenty of people that use to have locals ready to come back, but leadership needs to go. I mean, they did just have the majority of their formers (that are still alive) boycott their 90th pageant. That says a lot about what is going on in VA.
