Not bashing but. I was wondering what was the reason for New York to have won 3 years in a row. Neither won any preliminary awards...and yes I know many have won the title without. I will say those 3 were the pageants where you had no clue who the judges were leaning towards until the end

The judges each year saw a woman who impressed them; regardless of the state she represented. Was there consistent coaching for the three? Did the state organization provide resources that were beneficial to all three? Look at the states that produce winners who routinely make the top ten, especially in the South. Geography does not factor in the judges' decisions; superior preparation provides results. (NT) No name

Without looking it up, I can't remember who the competition was in those three years but I too remember being surprised at all three winners. So it probably had to be interview and preparation. I was probably most surprised by Kira's win...in fact one detail I DO remember is that I sat there and made my own top five when the time came and I picked the exact OTHER five to make the cut. I did this Shawntell Smiths year. I did not get a single top 5 right, not one. Miss Oregon at 1st runner up...good god no. I had the entire 5 semifinalist, as my top 5. KRAZY. Same for me Shawntell's year, as I had the bottom semifinalists as the top 5. I was there for prelims, and those weren't the 10 I would have chosen as semifinalists. When you won NY back then you were literally on your own when it came to making and getting to appearances. There was no apartment or car provided nor were there many sponsors compared to other states. When each arrived at the pageant, they were confident self-assured young women who clearly stood out compared to those who had everything handed to them and it was reflected in interview and what MAO wanted at the time.
