 Midoriko- The higher cards take advantage of him. All of the Cups are frail because they give up their life energy to heal others. You don't see too many Cups in public, and there is no extension of them beyond the cards. They usually don't even have a full deck because they have a habit of over-extending their power in emergencies. The face cards tend to be immune to the over-exertion part, but they're all quite sickly and brittle if you see them up close.

That added with the fact that he has trouble dealing with the elements, it gives them an excuse to keep a close eye on him.

Khanyal- ...Miko, take the crystal- someone is coming.

Mireyo- ...Aren't you worried about him?

Midoriko- Nah. The guards can't do anything to him. As much as the King of Cups hates hates him, he won't let anyone hurt him.

Anyway.... He pulled some strings to delay my return. Sent a friend to create some sort of problem that will occupy any mages that could come for me, he says.

They sent me out initially to get me away from him because they're starting to figure out that we talk to each other, and supposedly, they're just waiting for me to come back now so that they can make me the Paige and start trying to shove me into the Ace position.

Mireyo- You said that the aces must be willing to give their lives... right?

Midoriko- Yup. Remember how I said that there was originally another clan? The rumor is that their Aces were unwilling, so they opted to take the entire clan out with them. The survivors up and left, either integrating into other clans or leaving our lands alltogether.

Another interesting little rumor flying around is that those of us who bear the marks of the deities descended from those who survived. Food for thought that they give us on a regular basis.
