I have not dismantled the compressor clutch system to see how it works. I dont know why it is shorting out, I always figured it was a solenoid instead of electromagnetic.

If it was electromagnetic the only reason it should short is something conductive between the coils, maybe you could clean it. If it is the solenoid then it would probably be replaceable.

I am just shooting in the dark.
