Yes, it seems as though that could be a rev-limiter that you're hitting. Like was asked in the other reply - check the last three digits of your ECU (DME, computer, etc) which is located above the glove box. Then we'll tell you if it's a 325i unit or a 325e unit.

Has it always done this or did it begin randomly?
