i somewhat disagree with you. you are right, we needed time to accumulate knowledge abouzt the world and the way it functions, but... try and see it form this angle: man was incredibly stupid in his begining. when i say it, i mean that we, as a specie, were totaly dependent on nature, with no knowledge whatsoever about the world and our place in it. i think will agree on this part. but, as homo sapiens evolved, started to think and to use his brain, he got some "scientific" knowledges. did he, as delphs sugessted, known himself? no, he didn't. religion was one way of knowing what lies deep inside human being, not science. science started taking taht matter seriously in this century only, and is not yet half way through.
but, inspite of "flatness of earth" or "miracles" (let's be honest and say dogmas), science progressed. religion didn't. and when i say religion i really mean spiritual part of ourselves. look, we still use techniques and spiritual knowledge our far far ancestors knew! who progressed then, i wonder, and who was killed?
that's what i meant when i said that science killed god. and, you opened a real philosophical question here, you know: is there god, or isn't? if he is, how can we prove his existance? if he isn't, how can we prove his non-existance?
