Here's where I disagree: Science (in some form or another) has existed almost since the beginning of our existance, and progressed along with us thru' the ages. At a certain point in time, religious fervor (originating with the pope -- who claims to be the direct spokesman of God) caused a dramatic set-back to scientific progress. Saying God killed Science may have been a little over-dramatic (or at least a slight exaggeration), but 'He' definately leveled a tremendous blow to it. I do agree that Science has pretty much killed God in this day and age, or at the very least, greatly diminished 'His' power and influence. This is the same effect Science has had concerning most superstitions. Remember: the world was once flat, the heavens revolved around the Earth, tomatoes (or wolfberries as they were called) were poisonous; and Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
