I think there are many reasons why the world is "falling on its head:
* Humanity is hard-wired destructive

* Society is beginning to stagnate (which leads to decay)

* Children act like adults, and adults act like children

* Paranoia is running rampant

* No one trusts their leaders due to past and present corruption (both real and imagined)

* Everyone is taught from the start that they're a victim & that nothing's ever their fault

* and the list goes on...

as for "in the end": I don't totally believe that only the strong will survive. 150 years ago that may have been true but I believe the balances have leveled more toward the intelligent than the muscle-bound. (That and modern weapons don't exactly rely on strength to wield). Unfortunatly, the smart people are also less likely to pick up one of those weapons, so maybe the strong would survive afterall.

If I may digress for a moment, I believe the most important part of the phrase 'only the strong will survive' is the 'survive' part. Humanity-the-virus will survive, due in large part to our ability to adapt to whatever armageddons we create for ourselves (or those thrown at us by that nasty wench, Mother Nature). THAT is the key to the next level. Humanity, as a whole, is incapable of evolving from where we stand currently. I'm fairly certain that the closest we'll come to 'evolving' is thru genetic manipulation (playing god), in an attempt to adapt to whatever the future may doom us with next. (Either that, or we'll be forced to adapt before we reach the technical higher ground of deciding how we choose to adapt by some unpredicted cataclysm -- aka: a social revolution).

I'm starting to feel like a crazy, old man living high atop a mountain, babbling like a paranoid fool -- so it is time to bring this to a close...
