I am for what you could call gun education. I believe people should be able to posess arms, but I also believe that you should teach children about guns in the same way that you teach children to avoid things that you are far less likely to see - rattlesnakes, rabid wolfes, pirahnas, STD's, drugs, etc. As for the idiots who steal guns/obtain them illegally - you need to deal with those people as criminals - i do not see the problem with registering guns as they are bought, therefore you can do background checks, etc.
