Unlike most children, Trag dropped the subject when the boy obviously didn't want to talk about it, and took up the new topic.

"Trag. And who're you?" He smiled brightly, his angular face splitting with the grin. Rocking back on his heels, he looked the other boy over, up and down, before picking up a handful of sand and letting it dribble slowly through his fingers.

"She'd tan my hide if she knew I was after a fire-lizard, instead of swimming like I said. But if I sit here with you, and a fire-lizards comes up to me, well, then, it's an accident, isn't it?"

Proud of himself for finding a way around his lie, Trag grinned and plopped himself more firmly down in the sands, ready to talk some, and wait for a flit to hopefully hatch and come to him.

"And you can vouch for me!"
