Author: R'ven & ~Massath~, Vey :|: Yima & Tyr
Subject: They move to a corner table.
In reply to: R'ven & ~Massath~ :|: Yima, Tyr 's message, "The boy and his green walk in." on 01:53:46 12/24/01 Mon

Yima grabs some meatrolls and fishrolls, and they share them. "So, what's it like having a dragon?" Yima asks, munching a fishroll.

R'ven shrugs, unable to explain. But as Massath nudges his leg, a smile spreads across his face, a smile that tells Yima everything she needs to know.

~She's really concerned that you'll be happy here,~ Massath notes. ~You're lucky, you know. For a lot of the new dragonriders, their families didn't come at all.~

-I know I'm lucky,- R'ven replies, scratching Massath's eye-ridges. -I have a loving sister, a firelizard egg -- but most importantly, I've got you! I love my sister, but you're the most important thing in my life, and always will be.-

~Good, because I feel the same way,~ Massath replies, crooning softly.

Tucked into the crook of Yima's arm, blue Tyr slowly wakes up. Flipping his wings, he stretches, stands, and also begins to croon. Yima stares at him in confusion.

~The egg!~ Massath tells R'ven. ~The firelizard egg! It's hatching; get it out of the pouch quick!~

As R'ven upends the pouch over the table, Yima realizes what is happening and grabs a handful of meatrolls from a nearby serving platter. "As soon as it hatches, feed it!" she hisses to R'ven.

The egg cracks down the middle, and a large bronze firelizard tumbles out. Struggling to its feet, it staggers towards R'ven, creeling loudly. Picking up a meatroll, R'ven breaks off a piece and stuffs it into the open maw.

It takes three meatrolls to placate the newly-hatched bronze, but the little 'lizard finally finishes. With a sound resembling a soft purr, it curls up in R'ven's arms. The boy turns to display the tiny creature to his dragon. -Look, Massath, our very own little bronze!-

~He's ours?~ Massath queries. At R'ven's nod, she bends over the tiny creature, careful not to disturb it. ~He's lovely! And he's just for us.~

Yima smiles at her brother and his new firelizard. "So it was a bronze," she says softly. "Congratulations. What are you going to name it?"

~Name it? Oh yes, he needs a name,~ Massath sayus eagerly. ~Can I name him, R'ven?~

-Of course, my lovely dragonlady. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be perfect for him.- R'ven smiles at his green, still his first and central love.

~Vey!~ Massath announces proudly. ~We'll call him Vey!~

-A splendid name,- R'ven agrees happily. Turning to Yima, he works one arm free of his burden and sketches the name in the sand still on the table. Vey.

"Vey?" Yima says approvingly, and Tyr chirps. "That sounds great! Who came up with it?" She chuckles as R'ven points proudly at Massath. "A very intelligent dragon, you are, Masath," she tells the young dragon. "I'll bet you're the smartest green ever!" She stands, pushing away from the table. "I have to go if I want to get home before dark. I'll see you later, maybe? Keep in touch; that's why I brought you that firelizard!" With a cheery wave, she strides away.

R'ven watches her go, stroking Vey. -There she goes. Well, it was nice having her here to congratulate me, and I'm glad she got a chance to meet you, Massath.-

As Yima reaches the exit, she turns back for a moment and calls, "Take care of him, Massath!" Then she turns away and vanishes from sight.

~Who else is there for me to take care of?~ Massath wonders, turning loving eyes on her lifemate.

-A good question,- R'ven answers, with an amused smile on his face. -Well, should we go back to the Perches or Weyrling Barracks? I'll leave it up to you, dearheart.-

~Leave?~ Massath demands indignantly. ~While there's still fishrolls to be eaten? You must be out of your mind!~

-You're right. Let's go raid the serving tables!-
