G’rein chuckled. “Know W’ntyr? We’ve been best friends since we were tiny! We’re like brothers – we were always fostered at the same place, and we Impressed at the same clutch. I suppose that’s why Lilith was fine about Grenith – Gren being her daughter. And I’m surprised Rinali was so fine about me actually. I was always the kind of weyrbrat to sneak into eth clutch room, and lead the others in pranks. W’ntyr was the calm one.”

He flicked a stray strand of hair from his eyes. “Ever since Garneth won Rishanath’s flight, Gren’s been feeling a little out of place – she can’t flirt with him any more! She used to a lot, you know. We were both a little nervous that he would go for her in a flight – W’ntyr and I, I mean. He more that I, I must confess. We’ll have to duck in and say hello, sometime.”

Grenith herself was busy with her eggs. She inspected each one carefully, noting shell colour and possible hatchling colour. She paid special attention to her largest – wouldn’t it be a fine thing to have a brown in her clutch!
