Subject: But not all...
In reply to: S'peer -- Scarth 's message, "Some people run from a possible fight." on 12:17:57 11/30/05 Wed

Seeing as the conversation had now left the beach and the rape, it was starting to turn slightly pleasant... or, at least, in Halzay’s mind. And—bonus points! —Halzay had found a subject he could be comfortable talking about; their friends. She almost smiled herself as his face lit up, but held herself back. He had affection for G’rein, so he had a right to smile at something. Her... well, she was just remembering her crush from her Weyrling days, and so she had nothing to be smiling back about for now.

However, the second Elaini’s name was mentioned, Halzay looked away. Not intentionally, of course—she didn’t want S’peer to realize something was wrong between the two, and Halzay had promised not to breathe a word of it until she was ready to tell W’ntyr… and she just couldn’t do that, not to Elaini, her best friend. And, come to think of it, she couldn’t do that to X’thrall, either—that would put G’rein, X’thrall, Elaini, and W’ntyr in a pickle, and she didn’t want to be the cause of that. She almost gave a mirthless laugh—she’d conversed once with X’thrall and thought him pleasant, so, in essence, this situation involved two friends each.

However, she hid her mixed feelings as she looked back at S’peer. “Sorry,” She said with a small, guilty smile. “It’s just… ‘Laini’s been a bit distressed lately, that’s all. You know, almost losing W’ntyr and such… It’s hard…” Faranth, please don’t make him suspicious. Thankfully, Halzay was a good actress, and so Elaini was most likely the only one to know she’d been cursing herself inside. She forced herself to continue the conversation normally—or, as normally as normal could be in the situation. “Well, I sure hope he’s not only staying for the kids—he’s staying because he loves her, too, isn’t he?” Halzay shrugged, acting as though it wasn’t too important and thanking Faranth that her personality was such that she could expertly mask her emotions. “I know Elaini would do anything for him… even if, well, even if he had won the queen flight, y’know?” She hoped desperately she was wording this right. “She talked to me a lot during her absence, and well… she told me that, no matter what, she would return to W’ntyr once her mind settled. No matter how the flight turned out, no matter what happened to her… She really loves him, more than her life even.” Halzay looked down in thought. All that she had said was true… Elaini did love W’ntyr more than life. She regretted the pregnancy possibly even more than X’thrall would, if they ever got around to telling the bluerider it was probably his. Funny thing was, ‘Rall didn’t even know yet…

Elizabeth crooned gently. {Yes, I guess we’ll let them sort it out,} She paused for a moment. {It was pretty abnormal, wasn’t it?}
