Finally escaping Gisella's clutches, S'kar doubles back to his weyr to wash his dark skin clean of the fishy smell and change into his second-best clothing, making himself unavoidably late for the Feast. Muttering under his breath about the Headwoman's tyranny, the bluerider weaves his way back down hallways and staircases until he reaches an inside entrance to the Lower Caverns. These are the back hallways, the ones that lead to the kitchens and the cold-storage caves, and S'kar makes his way carefully, always keeping an eye out for either Gisella or her ubiquitous brown firelizard. He always wonders how that creature seems to be everywhere at once; like most of the Weyr's dragonriders, S'kar doesn't realize that the Headwoman actually has two, identical to everyone but her. Entering the big main cavern without running into the Headwoman or her pet terrors, S'kar collects some food from the buffet tables and then casts around for a familiar face. The one he's used to seeing isn't there, and S'kar sighs a little in mixed amusement and regret. R'ven is your best friend, but he isn't your only friend, he reminds himself. You spend most of your time with him because not everyone can understand him, not because you don't have anyone else to spend it with. Well, and because R'ven is his closest friend, after all, but that still doesn't mean that S'kar doesn't have any others. Part of him regrets that Raskith isn't flying Massath this time, just to give the other two blues he'd spotted a bit of a challenge, but the bluerider understands why R'ven and Massath had asked that they stay out of this flight. For the past ten Turns, ever since Igen Weyr collapsed, Raskith had flown Massath every time, because no other males had ever shown up and she hadn't been in any shape to advertise for them; when both friends have concluded that the sex is fun upon occasion, but neither wants to commit themselves to one person, even a best friend, it's best for Massath to fly someone else this time.

And she says she knows me too well, and I wouldn't be a challenge, Raskith adds grumpily from his perch on the heights. I know her just as well! I could catch her any time I wanted!

Despite himself, S'kar smiles. /And it would be too short a flight to satisfy her. That was one of her complaints, remember? You know her well enough that you can catch her right away, and she likes long flights./ Shaking his head in bemusement as his dragon's complaints fade to a low grumble in the back of his mind, S'kar continues looking for someone to sit with. Then he spies a somewhat familiar pair at a table nearby and heads towards them, weaving through the crowd. There are probably other people he knows further out, but S'kar is unfortunately rather short, and can't see very well over all the taller heads in the room. Before he can get there a boy he'd seen at the Hatching joins them, but that doesn't deter S'kar. "V'tan! Melynda!" he calls when he gets close enough that his voice won't be drowned out by the roar of voices in the cavern. "Can I join you?" Hesitating at the end of the table, he runs a hand through his short black hair and wonders if it would be rude to sit down before being asked. At heart, the bluerider is very much a follower, and likes a bit of direction from the people around him. Two firelizards, a large brown and a blue so small it could fit in the palm of S'kar's hand, appear from between and land on his shoulders, tiny Smidge chirping smugly and Smoke happily broadcasting images of a dizzying, exhausting flight around the island with R'ven's three firelizards. /Where are Athena, Vey and Kree now?/ S'kar asks, knowing they won't rejoin their Impressed until Massath's flight is over, and Smidge jumps in with an image of the three firelizards taking up camp in R'ven's weyr. S'kar chuckles softly at the reception that R'ven is likely to get afterwards, remembering the way those three study the greenrider after every night he spends with another rider, then turns his attention back to the trio he'd been hoping to join. "Did you catch the Weyrleader's speech?" he adds to V'tan and Melynda, still waiting patiently for them to welcome him (or, at worst, turn him away if this is a private gathering for them). "I'm afraid that the Headwoman asked me to help her with something, and I missed it." Glancing at L'kas, he reminds himself to ask the boy about his dragon; he's fairly sure this one Impressed a blue, and it will be good to get to know another bluerider.

((I figure that since they've been in the same Weyr and all, and S'kar would know his fellow blueriders and be, ahem, interested in the greenriders, he might not be friends with V'tan and Melynda but he'd at least recognize them and know their names and their dragons. I hope you don't mind. Also, can I ask you to break your post up into seperate paragraphs for each character or something? I recall that the reason I didn't reply to this post before was because it was all squashed together, and I couldn't tell which character was doing or saying what.))
