Author: K'mar and Kigoth | W'ren and Datoth
Subject: New Arrival

The massive copper-hued bronze is the first to appear in the skies above, though he’s swiftly followed by an earthy brown dragon whose size is comparable to that of his companion. Obviously accustomed to co-flight, the males arch up and over an invisible barrier, settling into a gentle dive that gives them the illusion of merely coasting to the ground on a translucent atmospheric wave. The brown Datoth’s wings are the first to flare back, providing the drag to slow his descent and allow him a gentle landing for his rider, but it is Kigoth’s rider who dismounts first, slipping off his riding straps without a hitch and sliding down his bronze’s outstretched wing.

W’ren can only watch his friend amusedly as he slowly unfastens the buckles on wherhide straps wrapped around a pair of crutches. Pulling them out from their specified place in the harness, he then leans to the left, waiting for K’mar to move beneath him. The bronzerider arrives at a sprint, grinning up at W’ren and raising his arms to catch the walking-assistants as the brownrider releases them. W’ren then unstraps himself from the riding harness, patting Datoth on the side of his muscular neck. The strong brown muzzle arches around backwards to give a knowing nod to his lifemate before lifting one arm up and across his chest, settling his open chocolate palm near his opposite shoulder. Using his arms to shove his body up and over the ridge of Datoth’s spine, W’ren slides over into the outstretched hand, which closes protectively about his prone form, then places him gently on the ground.

K’mar is there to meet him as he lands, proffering crutches and a stabilizing arm. W’ren uses K’mar’s aid only to pull himself up on to his one good leg, then grabs the crutches and supports himself. The bronzerider walks steadily beside his friend as they head towards the Caverns, ready as always to offer the aid that the brownrider never requested. After watching their lifemates disappear down the stairwell, Kigoth and Datoth rise to the cliffs with bugles of congratulations to Quilth and Shrineth.

W’ren moves over to the table where Wessae and T’bel are sitting, gently hugging Wessae with a knowing smile, and greeting his old friend with a tight hug and heartfelt “Congratulations” before moving on. He and the Weyrleaders would have more time to talk later on, and being aware of their traditional responsibilities, he didn’t want to hold up the greeting line any more than he already had with his slow pace. This especially after his injured leg, painfully stiff this morning, had been the cause of his late arrival to the special event. Instead, he joins K’mar over at a small table in the corner, shooting the generally gregarious bronzerider a questioning look for their low-profile location.

The young man offers only a wide-eyed response of two words, as his gaze, slightly obscured as always by his dark unruly hair, falls on an agitated looking greenrider on the opposite side of the room.

“Hide me.”

It is all W’ren can do to hold back his laughter.
