Author: Nerilki(Avianyth) Fair of Four
Subject: Fallen angels at my feet
In reply to: Evelance (Darlith) 's message, "No one mourns the Wicked!" on 19:34:08 01/15/06 Sun

Nerilki noticed immediately when the woman- blue rider by her shoulder knots- sat down at the table. She could not help but staring at her-this was a fallen angel. Nerilki had been called an angel before, because of her long golden-blonde hair, but she had never seen a girl like this. Her raven-dark hair fascinated her, and the strange sadness that seemed to cling to her seemed to demand attention.
This confused Nerilki, who had always thought herself straight. But guys held very little interest for her, not even those bronze riders the other greenriders sighed and swooned and pined over. This...was very interesting.

"Women are for men to use, for the most part. You and your family are different, little angel, because you are Blood. Otherwise, men are allowed to use women and very few places still think it's wrong."

That had been part of a little snippet of lecture of Hold history. The idea had probably been that she shouldn't punished men who abused women, but it just ingrained into the nine-Turn-old girl that she was supposed to only like guys.

Avianyth, who is she?
I don't know. She rides a blue, though, doesn't she?
Yes. Either Maria or Evelance, then.
Maria's already here, love. It must be the one they called Evelance.

Nerilki finally tore her eyes away from the woman just a minute before the woman spoke.

"Hey. Lance, rider of blue Darlith. You ride a green, correct?"

She looked back up at the woman, almost ashamed. Welf-conciously, she touched her shoulder knots that marked her as a greenrider.

"Yes, I'm rider of green Avianyth. How's your day been?"

A really stupid way to start a conversation, but that was all her mind could come up with. The monotone in Lance's voice was little scary, but Nerilki was too busy trying to figure out exactly what was happening with herself to be insulted or scared. Avianyth huffed at her rider's thoughts, and spread her wings so that the sun could warm them satisfactorily.
I've never heard so much nonsense in all me life. Just talk like you would any other person. Like Hythe.
Hythe is different, nutcase. She's my best friend. I just met...Lance.
O for Faranth's sake, you're acting like one of those insipid greenriders you always hated.
Am not, pushy.
Are too.
Are not.
Are so too.
That's not even Pernese. Am not infinity plus infinity. Beat that, if you can.

Avianyth was silent, then spoke up.
Are too infinity times a good flight.
That left Nerilki speechless.

She took a small sip of klah, and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. It had been a long time since the cloth napkins of Southern Boll.
