 I'm a guy, but I started spanking myself much younger than 10. My parent's weren't spankers, though I did get a couple as a youngster. I did crave to be disciplined with spanking. But my parents were the kind that turned a blind eye. The 'boys will be boys' type.

I typically spanked myself out of guilt. Like the time my buddies talked me into stealing a pack of gum. I felt so guilty I went back to the store the next day, purchased a pack and, sneakily, put it back on the shelf. Later I took myself out to the barn and gave myself quite a switching. It hurt and I left some nasty looking welts on my butt, but it never had, nearly, the guilt relieving affect that I think it would have had if administered by a loving parent. I was only 8 or so at this time. It wasn't the first or last either.

Just my experience, so many possible reasons and only one person knows for sure.
