One, it keeps the leather well preserved and supple so it doesn't crack. Two, that oiled leather strap is just hellfire. Sorry for the harsh wy of describing it but God that oiled strap burns so bad. My last was several months ago, actually last year for giving mom bad attitude. Oh, dad rubs the oil into the leather by hand. He probably oils the strap once evry couple weeks. Spankings as a teen were from my father, and it felt like being on fire. What you heard was someone being taught their lesson the hard way, and no doubt that they were learning. After a session with the spanking stick, my behind continued to burn afterward, sitting was uncomfortable the next day, and there were visible marks for about a week.
