Then there were the worst ones reaching the stage of "Nothing exists beyond my throbbing, burning butt and it's never going to end."
Mom used an old hairbrush most of the time. She also used a wooden ruler on occasion. Dad used a double-wide leather belt or a regular wooden paddle or both. My brothers hated Dad's belt, but my sister and I considered Mom's ruler to be the worst.

Great questions for Rebecca. I was wondering the same things. The hairbrush is vastly underrated. I bet few people could get a firm bare bottom hairbrush spanking and not howl. The toughest teens end up crying real tears when they get a good one.
My mom used a yard-long ruler and it got the message through to me by the third spank. Like a fourth paddle swat, a fourth yardstick lick brought real tears if the third had not already done it. By the fifth I was at Rebecca's last spanking stage!

I don't want to give the impression that Mom's hairbrush wasn't bad enough on its own. Truly any of the implements were a terrible experience at the time. I think the ruler stood out as the worst because it was more narrow which gave it a more focused and intense application. Even as a teen it didn't take more than three or four smacks to have me crying and begging Mom to stop. I also recall getting it before school on a few occasions and it made sitting in those plastic chairs nearly unbearable for the entire day. With all the squirming I did in my seat on those days, I was certain everyone knew I'd been spanked.

It was a 12 inch wooden ruler. Yes, Mom spanked OTK almost all the time. She didn't set a number of spanks, but rather spanked until she was convinced we'd learned the lesson. Her pacing was relatively quick, especially compared to my dad. A spanking over her knee could be over with in less than a minute or it could last several minutes with lecturing sometimes pausing or slowing down the spanking. Being on the receiving end, even the short spankings seemed long.

You are lucky she didn't use a paint stick. They are very similar to a ruler but a few inches long and l slightly thicker making for a more fire on your bottom.
