IMHO, first of all, the switch should be considered a very severe instrument of correction, used for very serious misdeeds, and only with older culprits.

That said, a proper switch would consist of a straight, tender young shoot of hickory, birch, peach tree, apple, forsythia, or willow…about 3 feet long…thick as your little finger at one end, and quiveringly thin at the other….thin, green, and whippy….

For those who use / used , you use it all through the year ? How about winter ?
