It must be very interesting to report to your Supervisor/Principal. She must have remembered your paddle swats as clearly as you do. Was your Dad notified by you or by the school? Did you get more from him and did your Principal ever ask what happened at home? On the web there are many stories about life as a school secretary and having to witness swats. You mentioned your boss is a no nonsense manager. Has she ever joked about your still being eligible for paddle licks? During the school year what you describe is quite a long day. It is good that you have student assistants as helpers during each of the periods. Do you also have to monitor lunchroom conduct? I don't know what came over me as a new JUNIOR at my new private school but I used my fork to flick a piece of cherry pie at another kid in my class. I missed and it hit the wall and slowly dribbled down the wall. The music teacher was the monitor and he saw me do it and immediately assigned me 10 Demerits. Each week we got 7 free but after 7 one had to work off with 30 minutes of detention for each demerit. So, I had to stay after school on Friday for 90 minutes! To drive home the message that you were being punished, you were not allowed to do any homework, rather we had to copy an assigned page of a paperback dictionary, symbol for symbol. When we were done, we had to turn it in and they promptly tossed it into a wastebasket and assigned another page. It was an absolute waste of time and that was their point, I suppose.
