The guy is likely either exaggerating to make a point or simply not aware of his surroundings....the kind of person who pays no attention to those in his immediate orbit and thus would miss walking past a dozen smokers. I'll buy that he's never before seen an attractive young woman smoking if he's of a certain age. Things really are that bad for most people under 30.
