G'day Mark,

On the topic of having too many Characters in my stories, I'm there as well. To start with, my main character is on his own and doing just fine, he meets someone, still fine, he meets and old friend, okay, still good, but after that he kept making connections with more and more people, and it's become difficult to manage. I've managed to do a bit of pruning and have some characters that were part of the main story go of and do their own thing, which has helped a little, but managing the rest is tricky, I've found myself neglecting characters, so I have to pull them back into fucus and give them some love. But letting go of characters you've gotten to know and come to like is difficult. I found it hard to let them leave. I have yet to kill any of them off, and a couple of them are elderly, so it's bound to happen, and it's going to hurt. They've sort of become like family.

Gretchen has to be one of my favourite characters, so every chapter in her story has always been worth waiting for. Even Brianna, who I love to hate, I've been rooting for her in the last couple of chapters of her story. The Trevor arc never really resonated with me, but I've seen the start and end of that one, and there were parts that I really enjoyed reading, the characters were fully formed, the world they live in is fully formed, and you've done that in every arc you started, and it's been a pleasure to edit.

That reminds me, I still haven't done your most recent State Fair reports, and the 2025 season is on the horizon.

And that's a thing, regarding the Gretchen arc, I'm guessing you're over the hump on that one, do you want me to do what I did with the Trevor arc? The single-volume version I updated is going to end up being well over 500 pages, the work wouldn't take too long to catch up, just I wouldn't be able to release them without running into storage issues.

I owe a lot of people a lot of time.

I suppose I'd best grab a cuppa and mock something up. If it looks good, I'll drop the first volume, see if we can get any feedback. I don't like having to hold stuff back, it's easy to forget about, but the payoff will be in the longer term, it'll be ready to go if the online storage issues get resolved, it'll get new eyeballs on old stories, and it'll give me something to drop under the Christmas tree at the end of the year.

For all it's faults, I do kind of like living in this Universe, but Gretchen's one would be a nice alternative.

Nick
