Subject: Mark's Smoke Blog--2025 Fair Season Begins
The 2025 fair season kicked off informally this weekend with Summerfest in my adopted hometown. The pomp and circumstance about the start of fair season has been in a 10-year decline as sightings numbers fall off a cliff, but but there's still a measure of excitement in the air based on its legacy.
This year's lineup is poised to look similar to the lineups I've visited in previous years. In a few weeks, I'll spend three nights at my local county fair. The following week, I'll spend two days at the Iowa State Fair. The following week, I'll go to the Missouri State Fair. And I'll wrap up fair season with two weekends at the Minnesota State Fair, ending on Labor Day weekend.
As always, beginning one fair season makes for a good opportunity to reflect on the last one. And while the 2024 was inarguably closer to worst than first on my list of past fair seasons, it was striking that each venue produced at least one solid blog-worthy sighting, and in some cases more than one. Let's take a look back at the best of 2024....

I'm not naive enough to expect a turnaround in the ugly trends for sightings in the 2025 fair season. The best I can hope for is to return next year at this time with a list at least as solid as what I got in 2024. It's a tall order, but as I keep saying, you got buy the lottery ticket and attend if you have any hope of winning any kind of jackpot at all.
