Okay, all four versions are on the iRiver, all four correct version, I screwed up the borderless A4, but it's now correct. WOO!
So, as a sort of baseline, all four versions are readable on desktop machines, duh.
As for the iRiver…
1 - A5 Borderless: Text is easily readable, fills the page nicely without the need to zoom in.
2 - A5 Original: Text is easily readable, but if you need to make it a little larger, you can zoom in a little.
3 - A4 Original: Text is too small, it's still readable, being able to zoom in a little helps a little.
4 - A4 Borderless: Text is too small, it's still readable, but it does fill the page better.
Well, that didn't take long.
Honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference between the A5 versions, both work better for smaller screens than the A4 versions, zooming in slightly on the A5 original does make a slight difference, but it's not really noticable unless you're looking for it, and it does require extra button-pushes, so a little extra work. With the A5 borderless, you can jump right in. The A5 borderless is probably the best option for small screens, it's just there, you don't have to do anything.
Due to my earlier screw-up with the A4 borderless version, I figured out that the file size bloat comes from the front (and probably the rear) pages. The front page especially. If I did bare versions, the file sizes would be tiny, but I do like to put some effort into presentation, and it's only a few hundred kilobytes in this case, so would anyone really care?
Anyway, that's my findings, not that what I think matters that much, I'm far more interested in what the rest of you think. Tell me what you want, and I'll do the work, I'll be happy when you are happy. Happy happy.
