Here is my take on equipment based upon my experinces in this forum and other single-axis forums. I understand that for every 1/2 inch of added length to the shaft of a club the club will play 1° more upright. You need to determine how many degrees upright you have to go and increase the length of the shaft accordingly. NG built me a 7 iron based on personal data they needed for fitting me. The club is 1 inch longer than standard effectively playing 2° upright. It feels like the perfect lie angle for me (I'm 5'11")

If you want to physically bend the clubs then realize that most clubs can only be bent to a max of ±2°. Some of the old blade irons from the 70s and 80s may be bent ±3°. Obviously the softer the metal, the more you can bend the hosel.

I'm going to have a set of clubs set up for single axis also. As I said, I suspect that +2° upright will be fine. I will have the shafts increased 1 inch if I go with an overlapping grip (like Moe's original grip method). If I were to go with a ten-finger grip then I would go even longer in the shaft. The reason? By moving from an overlapping grip to a ten-finger grip you "shorten" the length of the club. Therefore, if I were to go to a ten-finger grip, I'd increase the shafts by 1 1/2 inches.

If there are any clubmakers out there, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Regards.

Rob
