I notice from your posting that you either hit it dead straight or dead wrong. No in between at all. Had a bit of similar trouble when I first took up NG. Had someone observe my swing - this person knew NG. He made me aware of one problem which I was totally unaware of, namely my lead arm on the downswing had a tendency to come way out and away from the body - this caused the ball to go way right because the club face was wide open. I made a swing change whereby I now have the lead arm on the downswing come across my toes close to the body, and that really has helped straigtness. However the sensation at first was really awkward and it took time. As well it caused some temporary yard loss (got it back) If you have a cam corder have someone record your swing and then look at the good versus the bad. It should help promote your awareness of your swing and perhaps you might observe some CG moves are creeping back into the swing - they are very hard to kill . The NG swing is a pretty simple swing but that does not equate always with a slam dunk either!
