Subject: More then one way to throw a ball
In reply to: Jim 's message, "Throw with your body then" on 16:23:33 03/03/02 Sun

Jim,
I threw balls all of my life. In Hi School I had a coach teach me how to throw a baseball correctly. He taught us to use the body to lead and whip the arm through. It is definitely a more powerful way to throw the ball. It was something that I had never experienced before. I guess that I was an arm thrower before and a body thrower after. So, I have to say that Chazman actually has a point here. I believe that the best swing is a blend anyway. That is a blend of body and arms. If you are over using the body, something that is quite common in poor swings, then the idea of swinging the arms can be a life saver.
I see no problem with Grass Cutter drill if it is used correctly. If used by someone who is not using the body correctly to start with, well it might not help much. A good teacher would know right away what drills will help a particular student.
One more thought. Jack Nicklaus talks a bit about swinging his arms, he also says that you must start the downswing with your legs. The real problem here, I think is that the golf swing is not an absolute. Moe talks about being an arm swinger one time and a body swinger another time because he is both. He uses his body and his arms.
Regards, Herbert
