Hello my Friend,

Forgive the poetic form of this letter but sometimes words tend to weave themselves in poetic ways when we write of things that are dear to us.

Such a long road traveled for you! Of all the years, the tears and spilled blood, of all the fears and pain, how wonderful it must be for you to be so close to having what so many have sacraficed for.

Your new Nation, though small, will be great. You will be great because you fought and died for her. Lady Liberty comes nigh onto Bougainville and all her children and I for one am glad to see it. And yes, there have been so many who doubted freedom but you and yours believed until the end. How silly those people seem now!

It is time now for PNG to pay its' debt to its' people. Bougainville first and then the rest. For too long our Mother's country has been lead by foolish and greedy men who care only for themselves and their gain. In truth I have given up hope for the mainland. This happened long ago. My hope is now in the islands starting with Bougainville and the others.

I just want to say that the vision that the leaders of Bougainville have set out for their new nation are a wonder to me. No mining! Is that right? No more mining of any kind on Bougainville? What a beautiful place yours will be! Look at Hawaii, they don't have mining but they are rich. You will do the same. How beautiful your island will be!

There are many who are against you and have been for the duration but there are many who are for you as well. So we too wait in eager anticipation for the day of the Birth of a new Bougainville. All we ask is that you make us proud by living up to your potential and by becoming all that you could not be while still part of PNG.
