Subject: True for all foreign aid----------but would you do it any different?

In PNG, we all see the bounceback nature of foreign aid.

Now learn why this bounceback takes place.

First, how generous are you at giving money to people you don't even know? Why would Australians give money to Papua New Guineans? Why would Americans give money to Russians?

Because they feel that it helps build relationships, that is one very important reason. Is that any different from why we give bride price and various gifts to others? Same reason.

Now, if you were a tax payer and you were pissed off at the level of taxes you had to pay, how would you feel hearing your government was going to give milions and milions of dollars to another country and its peoples?

Mind you, Australia used to support nearly onethird of the entire national budget with a direct grant of money. Look how that money was spent, do you think the Aussie government felt good about the way their money was used? What about the Australian taxpayers?

So the taxpayers start complaining.

But the government still wants to build relationships.

So the government tells the taxpayers, hey look, we still have to give this money, but to make you happy, we'll try to have as much of it as possible bounce back to Australia and help you the taxpayer.

So the taxpayers are happy.

They let the government still give foreign aid.

The government gives foreign aid to developing countries like us PNGeans on the big island.

And are we happy?

No, we complain that most of the money will go back to Australia and pissed off as hell about it.

Is there any other way it could be done?

What if YOU were an Australian taxpayer?

Kaikai bilo' tingting tasol, Yupela skelim.
