To begin with, poverty is a relative thing. Some one in America who is considered in poverty would be wealthy beyond all dreams to the people of PNG. Second of all, in any society you have a class of people who don't just fall throught the cracks, they crawl into them. They are lazy non productive leaches depending on tax payers to give them food and houseing, while they take their welfare checks and go buy liquor and watch their kids live in filth.

I am not so sure you understand the negative house hold savings thing either. Americans can save or if they chose, they don't have to. No doing so is not recommended, but it is there choice. What you are missing it thye fact that American net worth has been climbing for years now. They may not be saving a lot in the bank becasue they are putting the money in a new house that is worth 1/2 million dollars. So although there savings account may be low, their net worth is considerable. How did America get this way? DAMN HARD WORK!!!!! Sometimes 80 hours a week. You forgot to mention that Americans are spending less time in leisure than any any other developed country.People say that america consumes a large poortion of world resourse for their own cause. Not totally true here either. We are a production and export nation. We use the resources to manufacture goods to export around the world. There two factors that make our balance of payments deficet what it is. The import of oil and seafood. Neither of which we much of. Take away these two commodities and we would export more than we import using our own resourses to do so.
