This forum established after an incident of witch hunts and tracing attempts was observed to occur against students who spoke out on a topic others wanted silenced, on another forum. Our site is dedicated to those students.

Subject: Learning skills for organising and managing situations... or else

Dia websurfers,

This place doesn't have a visible administrator or any censoring, which makes things tough on all of us. On the other hand it toughens those who persist on the forum and try to learn skills to organise and manage others. It's an imperfect world and we aren't going to mold this forum into perfection. But we can try.

The responsibility for managing this forum seems thrust upon our hands. There is no hidden administrator to take responsibility for determining what we can or cannot say. Having someone else do the work for us is something we tend to prefer. We would rather relinquish our power to others, both on this forum and in real life. Most people would rather do that instead of taking on that responsibility and use that power to make things better. This forum is a small example of the real world. We continue to cry out for the administrators and hope that someday they will appear and straighten things out for us.

The whole country of PNG today, and the abuse of power that has taken place is very much a reflection of this attitude. The majority willingly handed power to the minority, and then sat back and took what came. It is still coming, the collapse of infrastructure, both physical and organisational. Those who have not been to PNG recently would probably be appalled at the regression. But still, few are actively taking back the power and the responsibility to make things better.

I realise this isn't the real world. Most of you may have experienced how easy it is to get lost in our little cyberworld as if it were our total world. Nevertheless, there are certain training opportunities that present themselves on forums like this. That training later will come in handy in the real world. The best training I can think of is learning persistence and devising some basic organisational talent. If you give up, then you give up the opportunity to learn those skills.

There is one persisting problem on this forum that will probably continue, regardless of what the majority wants or likes. We all know this by now, there is abundant evidence to show he won't go away. Those who have visited any of the forums for Papua New Guineans with regularity probably have figured out what works best in dealing with this problem. Just remember that what dealt with the problem before may not be the most effective solution now in dealing with our cyber problem. The solution that has been proposed may be the best one. Ignore postings without substance. Support those who make an effort to post some substance. Debate their conclusions if you disagree but don't run them down.

Liklik tingting blo mi tasol.
