I agree with you!!

I suppose the poster expects all PNGeans in the villages to slave away from dawn to dusk tilling their soil to grow kaukau or coffee or cocoa for exports so that the MPs could have more money to squander away in brothels overseas or on floozies in Port Moresby.

Why would villagers be so stupid to do this, when they knew that all their hardwork would be undone by those pot bellied pretenders in the haus tambaran? If MPs want people to work then they should lead by example. These lot are the worst of the lot.

PNGeans are not so stupid as to squander away their resources. Idle land is not Idle. It is land under active conservation or regeneration. That is the misconception that westerners and some PNGeans have about the available land in PNG. They think all the available land should be put into productive use. Such agricultural practices however, are a one lane highway to oblivion, as is being shown in Asia, Australia, the USA and Brazil. Massive deforestation is costing more than $10billion alone in Australia and equivalent amount in Asia through loss in soil productivity ( due to erosion).

It would seem to me that balancing needs and the carrying capacity of the land is one concept that was well understood by our forbears and they went to special pains to preserve their environment.

If we wish to double or tripple output then the government MUST have the infrastructure in place to stimulate growth. It cannot expect the reverse to happen. And this is precisely part of the triggers to the Bougainville Crisis. We had farmers and businesses that were on the verge of expanding but could not do so due to lack of infrastructure, mainly roads and bridges to enable farmers to transport produce to seaside ports for export.
