Subject: What does government and most educated Papua New Guineans think?

I will answer the question in the posting title.

Most totally accept the western viewpoint. They do not see that villagers are affluent and in some ways, closer to paradise than people in the cash economy from developed countries.

Again and again in the newspapers, the politicians complain about how we must work harder.

For what?

Again and again, it is said that there should be more projects to earn more money to pump up the cash economy.

For whom?

We have completely bought into a system which arguably is no better than what we had before.

Let's hope that Bougainville will be able to do it right. The propaganda has been so deeply absorbed in PNG that I doubt there can be a change at this point. We will inevitably sell all our resources, make everyone landless, either directly or indirectly, and become exactly what those in developed countries want us to be - hardworking, landless people just like them!
