What you say is so relavant to our country people in PNG. They may want the mod cons that the cities offer, such as power and clean water supplies.

The fact is, science and technology can empower them to maintain their lifestyle, if research into appropriate science and technology is increashed. There are now mini hydropower systems, and hybrid solar energy systems which can bring in the benefits of urban living right into the village, without disruption to our lifestyle. These systems are already availbale on the market and can be easily afforded by most villagers without having to surrender their right to chose.

The Appropriate Technology Association of Australia has set up several pilot plants in many parts of PNG and the Solomon Islands which can be used by vilagers to evaluate such systems.
