BCL PREPARES FOR GIANT REOPENING PARTY
BCL are going to start up operations as soon as they can get back into Bougainville thats the word. There were already thinking about their options for reactivating in late 1998. They have K700 million sitting in a Port Moresby account right now. For some time they were thinking about investing in a new direction. But their alternatives sort of dwindled and then there was the ‘peace process’ – now that one was nothing but good news for BCL.

BCL themselves says there is still AU$7.5 billion of copper ready to take out on Bougainville and AU$5 wroth of gold. Even if their mine is only 80% efficient at extracting these metals this is a viable reserve, definitely worth exploiting. Its more than AU$8 billion just sitting there. Compare that with Lihir which is just under AU$6 billion worth of gold.

BCL is very confident indeed of getting back into Bougainville. Those who have the contacts check it out for yourself and you'll that this information is sound. They are very confident of coming back into Bougainville. Why my fellow melanesians, may I ask that question of all of you.

What is it that gives them such confidence?
