Are the diverse values a function of our diverse cultures, or more likely a function of diverse contamination by western ways? I would think that our cultural diversity isn't mirrored by a diversity of values. The values seem relatively constant through much of melanesia, at least for lowland populations (maybe highland populations have a different balance of values).
