Thank you for your interest

I spoke of the voting process becasue while it may appear democratic the end product is not.

To be a true representative in the sense of democracy, the elected leader must be chosen by the majority in a secret ballot. In many countries this is achieved by a process of primary and secondary votes. You cast your vote by chosing your first (pimary vote) and second choice (preference vote) from the ballot. The primary votes are counted and then the preferences are counted. The leading candidate may lead by 20-40% after the primay vote. But the preference votes may put the candidate above 50 or 60%, making that person a true representative, the most preferred leader. If there are stuff ups then the voters can then blame no one but themselves.

Our first past the post voting system, on the other hand, allows only one choice and sets the stage for anyone with as little as 10% of the vote within their electorate to get into parliament and lay claim to the seat. This person may ahead of the next best contender by as little as 1%. This has come about because of the excess number of candidates that spring up from nowhere each election time. Many candidates are genuine, others are merely put there by contesting parties in the hope of diluting their oponents vote. The end result is a house full of rejects. In the last elections only five of the current MPs commanded more than 50% of the votes within their electorates. The majority of them could only attract 20% or less. In other words, the current crop of tyrants were rejected by 80% of the population...and therefore their election does not constitute a real democratic process. In fact what we have is a mob rule by 20% of the population via these pretenders in parliament. When we then complan about their performance we get labelled as fools for voting them in. Fact is, these people are selected by the minority, hence the majority of PNGeans should not have to suffer due to the mistake made by a minority sector of the population.

Cheers
