Re: Hoop Knowledge??? -- Somebody with a clue, 14:59:59 05/31/03 Sat
Czar,
You make some valid points about the success of transfers from bigger conferences to AE. Those guys all had great success. I will be curious to see how Ludmil does at Maine this year because I'm not sure you can point to his year as a success. Just don't go overboard yet about your two transfers. I am familiar with both, and I would have some questions. Somebody had to score points for a not very successful Loyola team this year that wouldn't have finished in the top half of AE. Jordan took an awful lot of shots to score the 13.5 a game and shot 40%. Did he average 13.5 in the MAAC,yes, but that is a bit misguiding when you look at the numbers. With that being said he could still turn out to be a good AE player. Zollner at 7'1 never saw the light of day at BC. I'll give you Craig Smith and Agbai, but you can't use playing behind Nate as an excuse. From having watched Nate, Billings, and Rowe all on multiple occassions, Nate would be my third pick in that draft. There is generally a reason why 7'1 guys play no minutes. There not very good. Now is the Big East different, of course, but he still has to prove a lot. Just be careful about how good you think these guys are going to make you.

Your comments are right on! Jordan's numbers may be suspect but remember his backcourt mate will be Jamar Wilson. They could form an interesting duo and if Jamar continues to play as he did as a Frosh, gains some weight and cuts down on the TOs the 2 of them could take a lot of pressure off each other.
As for the 7'er realize that he is definately not Big East caliber but he has worked out for 2 year against Big East competition and he will be facing lesser in the AE, YES it's a gamble but when you have a chance to get someone 7'1" 280lbs from the Big East and your inside game sucks you take the gamble.
With all that said we have to wait 2 years anyway to find out. I for one feel very good about having a Wilson/Jordan backcourt with a 7'1" center in 2004/05. We are a developing program and I think that if those 2 transfers were on our roster this year we might have had a solid year.

Re: Hoop Knowledge??? -- czar, 17:28:38 05/31/03 Sat
Nate Doorenkamp is better then Justin Rowe. Not even close. Nate is a skill guy and BC run's alot of flex. Doorenkamp plays a ton because his position needs to be skilled.
You can jump on Jordan all you want. His team was awful this past year and every team keyed on him because they were bad. The coaches in the MAAC voted him ALL MAAC 3rd team. They know alot more than you. Most transfers leave because they don't play or are not happy with their role. Jordan left for other reasons. Look at his frosh stats when he was MAAC All Rookie. OVer 13ppg. He will be a double digit ALl AE guy. At least one of the teams. MAAC is much better overall then the AE.
As for Zoellner? He is better than Rowe. I know one of the assistants at BC and he said that Zoellner did not fit their system. He said that Zoellner will be a double digit scorer and compete for the AE rebounding title. Too big and strong not too. Not skilled enough for BC. He will be able to guard Billings!
That Ludmil guy stinks! How many foreign guards in the college ranks that are good?

Re: Some miss-information -- lsbal, 15:15:46 05/31/03 Sat
Czar-Jerryl Parker started for Loyola,Chicago. He was 2nd on the team in avg pts scored. The reason his playing time was down was due to a severly sprained ankle.

Parker got "no run" at Loyola? As usual, you don't know what you are talking about. Parker started for Loyola and was their third leading scorer.

I agree. Anyone who is 7'1" and has any kind of skill should be able to get minutes anywhere.

Czar,
don't get so defensive about Jordan and Zollner. I'm not doubting that either of them will be good players, i'm just raising some points before you annoint them saviors. did you have to take both of them as transfers, of course, just don't be shocked if Zollner doesn't end up being anything more than an average player. you obviously are not huge on Rowe and I am not on Nate.

The only thing I know for sure is that Zollner will be a better prescence then what we had this season (6'5"/6'6" center) therefore he could be amajor impact player for UA. If he winds up being an impact player in the conference that would be phenominal for the DANES.

Re: Hoop Knowledge??? -- czar, 15:42:27 06/03/03 Tue
Nat Fox was very good at Maine. All America East. Rowe came from an NAIA and was All AE for two years and all he could do offensively was dunk. Billings is good because nobody in the AE has any size. He get's easy baskets. All I am saying is that Jordan has already proven himself by being ALL MAAC which is much better than the AE overall. Zoellner didn't play at all at BC. However, I like his chances of being a good All AE player. A stiff like Rowe comes from NAIA and is All AE? Bill Collins was a stiff at Rutgers!

>>>Zollner played vs BU and was no problem for the Terriers. Billy Collins was behind Danta Jones at Rutgers. Jones now is an impact player for Duke ! Collins left Rutgers because he intensely disliked the coach, for reasons which since have been publicized and that coach fired. Collins is such a great kid that one BU assistant coach told me: "If I become a head coach, first thng I do is hire Billy as an assistant."
