I doubt there'll be a new conference; I think a new one has to wait 5 years to be playoff eligible. I don't see how the Big East is supposed to trickle down to I-AA football; the attempt to create a Colonial football league will have a bigger impact on us.

DO you mwan have a bigger impact on you as in Albany? Also do you think that SBU will stay in the NEC until 2006 or leave early

By 'us' I meant I-AA football in the northeastern U.S. Not only the CAA, but schools being forced out of I-A due to the new attendance and budget requirements that start in 2004 may cause all kinds of conference movement.

I'd guess, since the contract was just signed last year, that Albany will stay in the NEC for at least two years before declaring intent to exceed its 30-schol limit; that would probably mean not eligible for conf. title the third year. I don't know if there's a penalty for leaving early.

I have no idea what Stony Brook is doing. Unless they have a secret source of funding, they'll probably do something similar.

I think the future of SB's football program will be closely tied to whomever they appoint as AD. R. Laskowski was an outstanding visionary for our program. His departure will most definitely leave a big hole.

It will be interesting to see who is the real power broker on campus with Laskowski's departure. Mcarchuk (sp) only has a couple of years left. The President is also pretty close to the end of her likely tenure. We're not going to go big-time (whatever that means) in football with Kornhauser at the helm. With Laskowski out it's unclear who is setting the visionary agenda.

With our new football stadium you would think that there will be some sort of major commitment to upgrading that sport. However, I shudder every time I look at Buffalo and the complete fiasco their President and football team have been.

I don't know that we can sustain the momentum of enthusiasm that our new football stadium created last year. People are only interested in a winner. Spending more money doesn't guarantee a winner. Just look at Buffalo.
