Subject: Vermont wins AE Baseball title

The series lived up to the hype with each team taking 2 games. Vermont wins the title on winning percentage though. Congrats to the Catamounts on a truly special season for them. Both teams are deserving of an NCAA bid.....we'll see how everything plays out in Burlington.

Not many better than UVM coach Bill Currier, who is very deserving of this success. My brother played for him at Vermont and I've seen first hand what a class act. They have only two scholarships that they split about 10 ways and he also raises all of the money for their Florida trip.

It's not the first time winning percentage has played in deciding first place or any of the other seeds.

Also, it seems that America East baseball really hasn't taken the expected hit when the four quitters left the conference. Delaware, until this season, used to be head and shoulders above the conference, Towson was OK but Drexel and Hofstra weren't perennial contenders. In their place, Stony Brook won 30 games this year and has had D-I baseball success while Albany wasn't far off the playoff pace.

If the weather is OK, Vermont could get a real big crowd on Thursday night at Centennial. I heard the Vermont Expos are helping them out quite a bit.

Not to mention that Drexel just dropped their baseball program yesterday.

Big-time congratulations to UVM for locking up the regular season title. This one belongs to Currier, and the seniors...specifically three in-state seniors who, without their unselfish contributions of staying in Vermont, this wouldn't have happened: Jeff Barry, Jamie Merchant, and Jeff Dixon. A tremendous round of applause for those guys.

Also, I will always, ALWAYS go to bat (bad pun, I know) for Bill Currier. Hands down, he's the best coach at UVM (considering what he does with what he's given), and he might very well, in fact, do more with less than any D-I college baseball coach in the country. A hard-working coach who's a native Vermonter...he's been here 16 seasons, and I hope he's here for another 16 (and I hope Fogel and Corran swing some cash his way!).

But now, it's tournament time. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be at the UVM/NU game Thursday night...early forecast looks good. Not sure about Friday/Saturday...previous commitments. I'm glad to hear the VT Expos are giving some help. I hope it's the Grounds Crew. That was always my complaint (in past years anyway...haven't been this year) was that the field/stadium people saw at UVM games was not the same quaint, comfortable little minor league ballpark people go to over the summer. It always looked like it was in disrepair, waiting for refurbishments before the June Expos opener. Hopefully with a nice setting, and some good publicity (Hope the BFP gets all over this. They had a nice front page sports article on Friday), they can draw a solid crowd, and make this a tournament UVM can host many times down the road.
