Subject: NU beats SBU 11-0 to Advance to NCAA's - 6 AE Titles in 02-03 for Huskies

NU beat SBU in the AE Baseball Title game this afternoon 11-0. I wasn't there, so I'd love to hear a live update, but Jordan Thomson pitched a 3 hit shutout to give NU its first NCAA berth since 1997.

The title ends what was one of the most, if not the most successful AE Seasons ever for the Huskies winning 6 league titles in the 14 league sports it competes in (Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Swimming, Women's Indoor Track, Women's Outdoor Track, and Baseball). Add to that an A-10 Co-title in football, and it was a great year all around.

NU won't win the Commissioner's Cup because it doesn't compete in as many sports as the rest of the league, but I'll take this year's results over anything.

If hockey and women's hoops can get their acts together...

Congrats and well deserved for an outstanding tourney. With that being said, I can't help feel bad for the conference for sending another overall weak team to the NCAA tourney. This happened in women's hoop this year too (with Boston U winning). I know this sounds like sourgrapes considering that Maine choked in both womens hoops and baseball, but I wonder if it would be better in AE baseball to take the Ivy appproach and have a best 2 out of 3 series (#2 at #1)? Anyway, good luck to the Huskies.....definitely one of the best post-season performances that I have seen in AE baseball.

1. Vermont did a great job at Centennial Field. Real big crowd on Thursday night. I spoke to the UVM people and it looks like the conference wants to rotate the baseball tourney between Vermont and Maine. They are the only two schools with suitable on-campus facilities.
2. Congrats to NU. And what won it was that McPhee did not get thrown out of a single game and was not constantly screaming out his players. Maybe someone told him to grow up.
3. Also congrats to SBU. I met their coaches during another game and they are very classy. They should be the team to beat in the near future.
4. No congrats to Maine. I understand several of their players were in a bar fight on Friday night. Also, after they beat UVM, they really quit against SBU in a game SBU had zero momentum.

Despite a poor performance by the home team, it was nice to see what it was like to finally have the baseball tournament in the best baseball facility in the conference.

No congrats to Vermont either.....I heard some of your fans were very rude in Orono 2 weeks ago. Also, Centennial is NOT the best facility in the league, Mahaney Diamond is. I heard that Centennial Field conditions were horrible! Also, I think Vermont pretty much gave up before they even started the tourney.
