Hello! We added both men's and women's lacrosse during the fall semester in 2001 -- probably for no reason other than to maintain the conference's auto bid. The men's team had freshmen this year as 16 of their 19 key players.

As to Tennis, how could it be a Title IX issue when there are men's and women's teams? As to Golf, Binghamton will likely earn an at-large NCAA bid. Can you name any other AE school to earn an at-large bid in an AE conference sport? Didn't think so.

A few weeks ago, everyone here was yapping about how Binghamton was all about basketball and didn't have a well-rounded program. Two conference titles and one conference runner-up later -- how ya like me now?

Binghamton has won more golf tournaments this year than any other team in division I !

Overall, Binghamton has seemed to do an excellent job of growing and maintaining a balanced all-sports program. They may not be headliners in any one, but can boast at least a modicum of success in all but its newest sports.

As a Boston Univ. alum, I'm impressed with what the Bearcats have been able to accomplish in so little time. They appear to be the strongest of the three additions.

That being said, there is only one BU in this conference.

Moreover, our closest AE competition, Hartford, played in six of those tourneys, and we beat them in FIVE of them (3 times by a double figure margin) and tied them in one. So, home course advantage had nothing to do with it.

As for Title IX, the choice to play women's tennis, with teams that average around EIGHT members, has nothing to do with Title IX. It makes no sense to add a sport that only changes the balance by 8. It's sports like women's lacrosse and field hockey, which average something like 30 members, that make a difference -- which is why the rest of the AE sports teams for each and, up until now, Bing didn't. We were smart enough to realize that football is a huge drain on money and, thus, not worth starting.
