I must disagree with the following point. I think that Monasch would want that edge, especially if they are having a great year. There could be nothing better than having a good team, possibly the best in the conference win the tournament. The few times I have heard Monasch speak, it has always been about what could best help the conference.
He knows full well that having the best team in the conference, especially if they have some good out of conference games win the tournament. Look at BU and Vermont this year. had BU won the bid, the would have probably gotten at worst a 15 seed, maybe a fourteen. With the chance to maybe win or give a good run. Instead we get Arizona and got hammered.
So I would think that UVM is the preseason favorite, should win a lot of games and if they could win the tournament, maybe avoid the #16 seed. Monasch knows this and would probably favor it.

True, but that logic doesn't automatically transfer to UVM. BU was projected a #15 (minimum) seed because of their repectable out of conference performance against high major teams. If UVM continues to play DIII teams, schedule semi-tough OOC games, and win the AE tournament again, there is no way they they will be higher than a 16, even if they win the league undefeated (which most likely won't happen).
With a weak OOC showing, the only way that could happen is if at least three or four AE teams have great years and high (150 or less) RPIs and UVM beats them all. The Preseason NIT is a good start for them. But it remains to be seen how well they will compete there (another blowout as against Arizona won't help). That may be the key to a possible higher seed, IF they should make the NCAAs again.

First off, let's not over look Cat A. Mount's (nice moniker) original argument-- Vermont deserves to host the men's tourney!
Binghamton would be a great place for the women's tournament. New building, new people, it would show their commitment to the conference.
Who cares really what seed you get when you get in the first time? Especially you guys from Binghamton, who would kiss the polluted earth you live on to even be in the play-in game.
It is ridiculous to even argue what seed a one-bid league gets. Unless you are like Penn, they just fill in the rest at 14-to-16, and it really doesn't matter. And this season there were very few if any upsets in the lower conferences, too.
If Vermont got pounded in two guarantee games instead of beating St. Mikes and Middlebury, it would not have mattered. OOC, UVM did OK beating a Mid American team (Eastern Michigan turned out to be as good as or better than Ohio), beat Marist on the road, had a tough loss to Drake and went 3-1 vs Ivy's and NEC (they lost at Harvard without Coppenrath). Then again, very few big teams wanted to schedule Vermont for other guarantee games heading into last season. Same for this year.
The big thing for this league is that they need to win more road games against the other similar conferences in the region: Ivy, Patriot, NEC and MAAC. AE made a big improvement this year but needs to go further next season.

I wasn't commenting on that part of the post -- if you noticed, I addressed my comments to the poster's point that if UVM got to the NCAAs NEXT season, they would automatically get a higher seed.

If you read the post, it was about NEXT year, not this year's seed. My comments were based on the way the selection committee seeds teams -- it's mightly hard for a conference like the AE to move up from a 16 seed if the team who makes the big dance has a weak out of conference schedule -- that's not my opinion -- it's fact. And I'm not from Binghamton.

Sorry, but Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Drake, Marist, the Ivies, and any NEC team are not the kind of competition that gets you to a 15th or better seed. Yes, I agree 100% that AE teams need to beat teams from these "similar" conferences -- that's essential. However, that wasn't the subject.
