Once again slipping off towards the kitchens, Irvine mentally repeats the order to himself as he goes, not even bothering with the little notepad this time. He shortens the meals and uses the names that the kitchen staff uses, focusing instead on who ordered which meal.
Squid noodles for Spikes, steak, potato, and peas for the other guy, fish, green beans, and corn for the other guy's boss, nothing for the pretty one, lasagna for the other pretty one, and rooster pie for the last guy. Squid noodles for Spikes...
The women of the group require less mental description for Irvine, but that's because it's a lot easier to remember the face of a woman than a man. That's what Irvine would tell you, anyway.
A short time later he returns with another, nondescript waiter, each with an identical silver platter with the separate meals arranged on them. In the center of each there is a small assortment of flowers, to add to the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Both waiters distribute the food to the correct recipients, the second waiter only hesitating once when unsure of who ordered the squid pasta. In actuallity he couldn't believe anyone would order squid pasta, but he wasn't paid to make judgements.
The trays emptied, Irvine adds one of the flower arrangements in the vase at the center of the table, and scoops a small white daisy out of the other. He winks and presents it to Lian with a small bow, then straightens with a natural, easy-going smile and addresses the whole group.
"Is there anything else I can do for you tonight, or will that be all for now?"
