Yes, I think you may be right when it comes to the 99% figure.

However, it was the countries pre-mentioned, that maintained constant releases and playing of his music, especially England, where he never lost anything but in fact, probably gained ever more after his death.

it wasn't until 1975 when John Goldrosen wrote his ground breaking book and a little later the very inaccurate movie that came out in 1978 that Americans in general started to replay his music and we thank them.

Of course, there were still pockets of fans across the USA but most of these did not know of each other until later.

Del Shannon and Roy Orbison suffered the same fates whereby they had to go overseas to get gigs and still thrill those audiences. I saw Orbison in the mid 1980's in Seattle and there was lucky to be 200 people there. It was sad really.

The entire musical world was engulfed by the so called Merseybeat sound coming from England.
