To be honest, I didn't really think much of Duane Eddy's version of Peter Gunn. He didn't play all that much, and it was mainly the sax doing all of the work beyond the main riff.

I just had another listen to The Pirates version. No competition there, I'm afraid. The only thing I found slightly annoying was that it sounded as though Johnny Spence's bass was slightly sharp. I guess that's normal though when you're pumping it out live in a pub somewhere.
