Subject: Mr.G's Round Hill Lodge: Commemoration 46 Years After

Good morning Washingtonville, NY.
I wonder: Do you remember us? Obviously, some of us still remember you, even after all these years, almost a half century later. I suppose what nestles deep in the heart & soul is the wonder about just how much hatred you could hold in your own heart, against people who did you no harm, held no malice against you, people you never even bothered to either know or become acquainted with.

Some of us merely travelled through your other-wise un-notable enclave, passing through on our journey to a place where, almost 3 miles away, and a good half mile off the main road, along an other-wise un-used dirt road that wound through a thick wood-land and up a hill to a large meadow, we could pass some hours, listening and dancing to music, sharing beverages, conversations, meals with good Friends who were more "Family" than simple acquaintances... happier times. (Of course, those who had the misfortune of "passing through" your enclave were those un-blessed with the knowledge of the alternate routes which, though such travel increased the distance and wound through then-desolate foot-hills, provided safe journey where travellers avoided being accosted and unjustifiably jailed for a night... if not longer, by ignorant, bigoted, so-called, self-proclaimed "law enforcement" personnel.)

Six fire companies and 12 hours of battling the blaze of one structure... and the cause of the inferno never reported and, to the best of knowledge, never investigated.

The accounts of those present at the time, of citizen-vehicles parked across the entrance to the dirt-road-drive to the Lodge, prohibiting the members of those six fire companies access to perform their duties, to extinguish the flames AND to protect human lives then and there in danger... never reported.

Well, Washingtonville, there are a few of us still alive today, remembering good Friends, Family, George, "The Lodge", the joys, sorrows, compassion, camaraderie, AND the events of 46 years ago today. We'll take these memories with us far beyond our graves, more surely than you'll take your bitter, ignorant hate with you far beyond your own graves.

But fear not, Washingtonville, we, those who were there, many of us have already perished over these years and those who remain grow older with each "tick" of a clock. Soon, all of us will have perished, but rest well-assured, the documentation of that atrocious night will continue... some-how, because at least ONE of us still works to make that so.

Remember "us", Washingtonville?
"I" remember you.
