Subject: My thoughts on the NCAA Tickets

It's pretty apparent that there are many posters who are less than pleased about their NCAA tickets. With all due respect, season ticket holders should be grateful that they have tickets at all.

Does anyone really think that the NCAA cares about the host school's season ticket holders? The only reason that all of our season ticket holders have seats is that Ensor, D'Argenio and Belber worked to get us priority over the general public. I find as much fault with the Commish as anyone, but from what I've been told, he actually helped us this time.

I also feel that the distribution of the tickets was fairer than in 1995, when Siena season ticket holders and MAAC all-session pass holders were put on equal footing. Further, in 1995, no consideration was given to whether the season ticket holders had had that status for one year or 20 years, or to whether they had been supportive of the program through contributions to the Coach's Club. I know that firsthand, because as a long-time season ticket holder and financial supporter of the Coach's Club at the upper level in those days, my 1995 NCAA tickets were in the last row of Section 207.

This time around, priority was given to the people who support the athletic program financially, above and beyond the purchase of season tickets. Quite frankly, I find that priority eminently fair. Unfortunately, the Pepsi is the smallest arena to host the Regionals in several years. The media ticket demands are greater than for the first and second rounds and there are fewer prime lower level seats than in an arena like MCI. The ticket setasides for the NCAA and the host schools do not decrease, however. The result is that fewer people wind up happy with their seat assignments, but the bottom line is that they should be happy to be in the building. As someone who will get to see a part of the Big Dance live for the sixteenth time in the last 25 years, and has sat in the third level at the Carrier Dome at least a couple of times, I still maintain that just being in the building is great.

One final note. The internet site that is advertising lower level premium seats is claiming to have tickets that are in the participating school sections, and according to my contact at the Pepsi, those tickets have not even been printed yet.
