When the decision was made to move into the arena, it was done during the 'height' of the Beyer era. The ARC wasn't even selling half the seats at that point, and I remember sitting in the cavern of the Knick for quite a few ballgames. I think I knew the names of everyone in attendance when I left.

It took the Hewitt turnaround to start getting the crowds again, and as we now see it's turned into quite an institution downtown. It is almost mindboggling to think of 8,000 people regularly for Siena games, if you consider the humble origins of this program.

Question is, could Fairfield enjoy the same? Tough to say. I think we have benefits up the yazoo in Albany - not the least of which is lack of proximity to NYC, which makes Siena the only game in town around here. I think Fairfield will be hard-pressed to ever enjoy a regular attendance of even 4,000 much less what we enjoy in Albany.
